Top 5 Movies of 2011

Ok, so this is as good a place to start as any. To give everyone an idea of the sort of movies I'm into I'll post my top 5 films of 2011.

1) Drive... From the guy who did... The Pusher.
Ryan Gosling oozes cool as the Driver in Nicolas Winding Refn's 80's neon noir.
If you like this check out - Vanishing Point (1971)

2) Warrior... From the guy who did... Miracle.
What a surprise this was. Tom Hardy in all his beefed up hulking glory, for me is overshadowed by a stand out performance by Joel Edgerton. This packs as much emotional punch as it does hard hitting MMA action.
If you like this check out - The Fighter (2010)

3) Tyrannosaur... From the guy who was in... Dead Mans Shoes
Paddy Considine's directorial debut shows hes been sat quietly watching and learning from his old friend Shane Meadows. This film is dark, disturbing and ultimately thought provoking. Both Oliva Coleman and Peter Mullen's performances are breathtaking.
If you like this check out - Nil by Mouth

4) 13 Assassins... From the guy who did... Ichi the Killer
Director Takashi miike takes a side step from his normal mix of extreme violence and sexual taboos. Miike shows a real touch of class in this reworking on the classic samurai/western story of the not so good vs evil.
If you like this check out - The Twilight Samurai

5) Hugo... From the guy who did... The Departed
When i first heard Martin Scorsese was to direct a 3-D kids film I had my reservations.
Well boy was I wrong. Sit back and enjoy as we are whisked on a wonderful journey back to the early days of cinema.
If you liked this... why not treat yourself and check out - George Méliès - A Trip To The Moon
